Literature is a word derived from the latin word ‘litera’ which
means letter. It is a piece printed word related to the ideas and feelings of
the people that maybe true as just a product of the writer’s imagination. I’d learn
that meaning of literature when I was handled by Doctor Remedios Dellera.
Every time that our class starts at afternoon, I was nervous in the
sense that I was always thinking that our teacher is very strict. But as the
class go along I’ve noticed that she only strict in terms of quizzes and
examination. She was strict maybe because she was aiming that everybody can
pass the subject in the way that everybody studies their lessons well, not in
the way that we have to depend to out co-student. Even ma’am is not obviously
kind; I know that she is concerned to us in terms of the studies.
During our class in Myth, I’ve learned a lot like the myth of
Visayas which is the “Visayan Creation Myth”. In that topic all of us taking
note while ma’am is reading the myth because she would gave quiz after reading
and lecture. And it was difficult for us because the only thing that we can
answer was depending on our copy. But then, we got enough score in that quiz.
Then the next topics were legends, riddles, proverbs, and the Ballad song. In
the legend, all of us wrote individual legends. Then everybody cited their
legends without reading their copy therefore some of our classmates did not
participate because they don’t memorized their legends. But some of us
participated in this interesting topic. In this topic we’ve learned a lot of
different legends of our Philippines culture. Riddles was the next topic,
tagalog of this is “Bugtong”. Again all of us individually wrote different
riddles. For me this topic was the most interesting. Riddles are not easy to
answer without understanding and analyzing. Then the two last topics were
proverbs in tagalog “Salawikain” and Ballad Songs.
All
in all, our class in literature 111, midterm was good. We learned a lot about
Philippine Literature.
